One is when you realize that you're completely responsible for another; most people reach this when they have kids; for me, it was taking care of someone terminally ill, without assistance. The other is when you realize that there's no safety net anymore, no one to catch you, which doesn't usually happen until your parents pass away. Trust me: growing up that way hurts.
